John is an experienced rugby man who was born and bred in Abertillery. An uncompromising flanker in his playing days.
John came through the M&J section at Abertillery before being selected to captain Wales u18s, while playing for the youth. His career saw him play for Newbridge, Karaka, Counts Manukau, Ebbw Vale and Neath, before injury forced retirement. After a long spell out, John coached his sons team for 3 years, before joining the club as TM

Nick, a set piece specialist, is in his second period as forwards coach of Abertillery BG RFC. He was part of the coaching team that saw the club win the Division 2 East title in 2016. Since returning during the dreaded COVID era, Nick picked up where he left off; winning things. Since his return the club has won Division 3 East, the Division 3 national Cup, Promotion from Division 2 and the Division 1 East league title in 24/25. As a player was a hard working back row forward who played for both Abertillery RFC and Blaenau Gwent RFC before their merger, amassing 200 appearances and captaining the team in 00/01. Nick also played twice for Monmouthshire against a touring New Zealand under 21 team.

Dan joined the club as defence coach for the 24/25 having spent 4 seasons playing between 2014 and 2018, where he was part of the Division 2 East title winning squad in 2016. A former Wales age grade international, Dan came through the Dragons academy in the early 2000s representing them through to under 20s. Dan's former clubs include Dragons, Bath, Bargoed and, of course, Abertillery. Dan has previously coached his alma mater, Clifton College, and Monmouthshire County. Dan won the Division 1 East league title with Abertillery in 24/25.

Matt is a vastly experienced, level 3 coach who has also coached Abertillery Youth, Risca, Dragons Academy and Monmouthshire County. Matt, a talented outside half in his playing days represented the likes of Abertillery and Pontypool during the 90's and early 2000's. Since taking up his current role at the club Matt has helped oversee the winning of Division 3 East, the Division 3 National Cup and the Division 1 East league title, and back to back promotions.

James joined Abertillery BG ahead of the 24/25 season as a player, where he started all 26 games. James has a vast family link to the club, including his grandfather Ernie, the international referee. James is a Wales age grade and Wales 7s international. A product of the Dragons academy, James has also represented Ebbw Vale, Bedwas, Coventry, Sale and London Welsh where he gained promotion to the Aviva Premiership and won the British and Irish Cup. James now steps up to skills coach and will also continue to play.

Mike has been with the club for a number of years and currently heads up our medical team. Mike ensures our squad is fighting fit.

Rob has been with the club for several years and his son, Ieuan, plays for the First XV. Outside of rugby, Rob is a world champion kickboxer. He brings a wealth of athletic expertise to the club to ensure the players are ready to play.

Nigel has long affinity with Abertillery having played at the club for years, amassing hundreds of appearances at first class level for both Abertillery and Cross Keys. Nigel has also coached to a high level. A level 3 coach, Nigel has coached at both regional and age grade international level- the list is extensive. Nigel is, without doubt, a stalwart of of rugby in Abertillery, Gwent and Wales. Nigel looks after everything on match day and is an experienced ear for everyone.

Dean takes charge of all things technical and matchday video analysis. Without his continued efforts we wouldn't have the ability to prepare the team as well as we do.
